  • TCM at the People's Climate March!

    Web-Asset_PCM_IwoJima_horizontal_employment_v1.jpg

On Saturday, April 29, people from all over America are converging in Washington for jobs, justice, and a safe climate at the People's Climate March.

We'll be marching with allies as the CLIMATE TRANSFORMATION DECADE bloc, representing our demand for the rapid, WWII-scale national emergency mobilization we need to reach 100% clean energy and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions within the next decade, guarantee a healthy environment and full employment, and begin restoring a safe climate for all of us!

We want you to join us, and please invite others! Here's how you can spread the word on social media.

    Tentative schedule:

10:00 am: We and allies will gather as a group for breakfast and coffee, at the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial, in front of the US Capitol grounds by the Capitol Reflecting Pool. We'll have a large banner, plenty of posters and flyers to hand out, and will be wearing blue Climate Mobilization t-shirts and red "Rosie the Riveter" bandannas!

Closest Metro stations: Union Station (50 Massachusetts Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002 - Red Line); Archives-Navy Memorial - Penn Quarter Station (Green/Yellow Lines).

11:00 am: We'll hold a short, rousing rally, speakers TBA.

Then we’ll head over to join all our sisters and brothers in the main People’s Climate March lineup along the National Mall, by 3rd St and Jefferson Drive.

12:30 pm: Begin marching up Pennsylvania Avenue towards the White House.

2:00 pm: March will surround the White House on all sides and take a powerful collective action.

3:00 pm: March will reconvene at the Washington Monument to hear from the frontline communities of the climate crisis about solutions.

*In case cellular data reception is unreliable at this highly attended event, we recommend that smartphone users in our bloc download FireChat, a free group messaging app that will allow us to communicate over short distances in case any of us are separated and want to find our main group. Join the chatroom #TCM.

    Our vision: #whyimarch

We, the people, are building a sustainable future by creating andpromoting grassroots solutions to climate change. We envision a green economy that puts people and planet over profit and politics, protecting our world from fossil fuel destruction while ensuring that those who are disproportionately affected by climate change have a seat at the table. We demand that people be valued over corporations. We call on all City, State, and Federal governments to immediately promote a social and economic mobilization to restore a climate that is safe, stable, and supports human civilization.

"Civilization is on the verge of collapse due to climate change, income inequality and ecological overshoot. Our political system is in the hands of a tiny elite class profiting off this triple crisis, and too oblivious to slam the brakes on the system before it all comes crashing down.

Ordinary people must form a nonviolent movement to spark the just emergency transition we need to save our children and avert total collapse. Armed with the truth, people won’t stay scared and passive. They will rise up to reclaim honor and dignity, going all in to fight for all life.

This is our social movement strategy in a nutshell. To find out how it all works, read our Blueprint for a Climate Emergency Movement: a plan for how we can escalate and win the fight for the emergency transition we need."
