Introduction

The Climate Solutions Forum represents a space for Climate Mobilizers to discuss policies and technologies that can potentially help us save civilization from catastrophic climate change.  Our goal is to maintain an open space that welcomes brainstorming in the interests of the greater good.  The ideas and data posted here provide a starting point for the Climate Solutions Institute to develop plans for Climate Mobilization.  Therefore, this Forum has a zero tolerance policy for ad hominem attacks and vitriolic criticisms, which will be removed as soon as they are noticed and/or reported.   Instead, disagreement with the strategies and conclusions in posts should focus on dispassionately presenting data that is on point and speaks for itself.  Valid negative data may be deleted if mixed with inappropriate comments and/or personal attacks.       Statements made in The Climate Solutions Forum do not represent official Climate Mobilization policies or positions.

Urgency: the methane burp

In this section of the Climate Solutions Institute, we invite you to join us in thinking seriously about specific climate mobilization drivers... specifically the melting of polar ice, tundra, and deep ocean beds that have the potential to release naturally stored METHANE

Actions that are effective and worthwhile at the neighborhood, community, and/or family level

In this section of the Climate Solutions Institute, we invite you to join us in thinking seriously about specific climate mobilization strategies, focusing on actions that are effective and worthwhile at the neighborhood, community, and/or family level.  Obviously, individuals can and must support actions at other levels, so what we refer to here are efforts that are uniquely suited to initiation at this level.  For example, Biochar sequesters carbon and is suitable as an activity for one backyard or a few neighbors on the same block.  Individual home solar installations are a long-standing concept, but shared neighborhood solar operating like the shared swimming pool of a condominium complex necessarily requires like-minded neighbors to step forward to capture economies of scale and shared ROI.

Sub-national governmental actions

In this section of the Climate Solutions Institute, we invite you to join us in thinking seriously about specific climate mobilization strategies, focusing on governmental actions deployed by state and local governments.  The focus here is on tools that are not primarily the implementation of a specific technology [such as a ban on fracking, deployment of tax incentives, etc.].

Federal level actions

In this section of the Climate Solutions Institute, we invite you to join us in thinking seriously about specific climate mobilization strategies, focusing on federal level actions to mitigate climate change [including legislation, regulation, and executive orders].  The focus here is on tools that are not primarily the implementation of technology of a specific technology [such as tax & dividend, cap & trade, tax incentives, etc.].

Greenhouse gas sequestration and other geoengineering approaches to global cooling

In this section of the Climate Solutions Institute, we invite you to join us in thinking seriously about specific climate mobilization strategies, focusing on proposal and testing of methods to sequester greenhouse gases;  preventing their release into the atmosphere and/or removing them from the atmosphere.  Reminder:  the complexity and magnitude of the climate crisis demands that we be open to solutions from unexpected places.   For this reason, the Climate Solutions Institute is neutral ground that explicitly makes room for brainstorming.    Necessarily, this means that many proposals will be flawed and at times, this may be readily apparent to some readers.  But in the interests of capturing the benefits of brainstorming, personal attacks, and unnecessarily unkind arguments are strictly banned.  Therefore, we require that negative comments be self-limited to the presentation of hard data with citations whenever possible, or a simple statement of relevant facts without attitude.

Other alternative energy technologies

In this section of the Climate Solutions Institute, we invite you to join us in thinking seriously about specific climate mobilization strategies, focusing on all other alternative energy technologies that can replace fossil fuels [any solar technology, any scale of deployment].

Renewable Energy: Geothermal

In this section of the Climate Solutions Institute, we invite you to join us in thinking seriously about specific climate mobilization strategies, focusing on renewable geothermal technologies that can replace fossil fuels [any solar technology, any scale of deployment].

Renewable Energy: Water & Wave, Ocean & River

In this section of the Climate Solutions Institute, we invite you to join us in thinking seriously about specific climate mobilization strategies, focusing on renewable hydro technologies that can replace fossil fuels [any solar technology, any scale of deployment].

Renewable energy: Wind

In this section of the Climate Solutions Institute, we invite you to join us in thinking seriously about specific climate mobilization strategies, focusing on renewable wind technologies that can replace fossil fuels [any solar technology, any scale of deployment].

Renewable Energy: Solar
