City by city campaign

The Race to Mobilize is On

Local organizers, coalitions and city councils around the country are  building momentum for the just and adequate emergency climate mobilization we need.

Building a mandate for emergency climate mobilization, starting locally:

Our City by City campaign urges local organizers to move hometown governments into climate emergency mode.

Why Cities?

Cities have often been often the source of national progress, from minimum wage to civil rights.  Local wins inspire other communities to follow and build a mandate for the much-needed national mobilization.  Cities can become advocates for emergency climate mobilization, and push for state and national mobilization.

Current Strategic Priorities for Local Campaigns (organizers have chosen to focus on one, or several):

1. Passing declarations of Climate Emergency with commitments to reach zero emissions and begin carbon drawdown at emergency speed

2. Cities becoming advocates for emergency climate mobilization to the public, to other cities, and to the state and national levels.

3. Imagining and implementing mobilization policy locally

Help Launch a Movement

What you can do today:

Start or join a TCM chapter in your area and work with like-minded people to pass local climate emergency policy.

Part of a different group that wants to take on elements of this campaign? We'd love to work together!

Supporting this campaign financially will help hire experienced organizers who can power more wins.

Are you an elected official or policymaker?

In the absence of federal leadership, you can use your office to build momentum for safe climate policy upwards, outwards and downwards:

  • Inspire other local governments to do likewise

  • Take concrete actions and improve the quality of life of the citizens you serve

  • Push State and National governments to do the same

I’m calling on all Angelenos to mobilize once again. We need a World War II-scale mobilization in order to keep our City safe and our planet habitable and resilient. And we need to ensure that we do it in a way that honors frontline communities, ensures equity, and protects workers. I’m asking the creative minds of Los Angeles to join with the grassroots activists in creating the City of the future, not some fictional Tomorrowland, but here, on the ground, in the City of Angels we all love.
