At The Climate Mobilization (“TCM”), we are dedicated to the protection of the personal information of our supporters, members, donors, and website visitors (“you”).
2.0 Information We Collect and Why
2.1 Non-Personal Information. As most websites do, we collect information that cannot be used to specifically identify you, which may include the name of your internet service provider, your IP address, the browser and type of machine you are using, the website that referred you to us, the pages you request and the date and time you request them.
We use Google Analytics to gather this non-personal information. Generally, we use this information only in the aggregate to understand how visitors navigate through our website and how we might improve the user experience. For more information on Google Analytics, please review this link: google.com/policies/privacy/partners.
2.2 Personal Information. The only time we collect personal information, or information that can be used to identify you, is when you voluntarily provide that information, such as when you sign up for updates or register to participate in projects or campaigns. We will use the information you provided for the purpose you provided it, and we will add you to our mailing list.
As part of our mailing list, you will receive updates on other TCM campaigns or activities, as well as information about campaigns or activities of local affiliates, Climate Mobilization Project (“CMP,” our affiliated 501(c)(3)), or other trusted TCM allies in certain cases—such as if our allies are organizing events that further TCM’s mission in your area. In order to improve our engagement with our network, we may track whether the emails we send to you are being opened and whether the links they contain are being clicked. You may opt out of these communications at any time using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of each email we send.
3.0 How We Store Information
Information collected in accordance with this policy may be stored by TCM itself or it may be included in databases owned and maintained by our affiliates, agents, or service providers. We currently use EveryAction as our contact management system. For more information on EveryAction, please review this link: ngpvan.com/content/privacy-policy (see section entitled “If you are a visitor to the Web site of an NGP VAN client” and below).
4.0 Processing of Credit Card Information
If you choose to make a donation to TCM, your credit card information will be processed through our secure online payment system, using a third-party payment processor. If you choose to make that donation recurring, the information will be stored by our third-party payment processors. Our payment processors use industry accepted data collection and encryption methodologies to ensure the security of your sensitive payment information. Payment information entered on our website is not stored or seen by TCM.
5.0 Sharing Information
5.1 Basic Contact Information. We may share your name and email address with trusted organizations that share our mission. These organizations include CMP and partner organizations working in your area. We will not share your information with any individual or organization not dedicated to the success of TCM.
5.2 Location Information. We will not share the information you’ve given us on action or event signup pages with unaffiliated groups or individuals without your explicit permission. For the Pledge to Mobilize, petitions, letters to the editor, and other similar items you have signed or completed, we treat your name, city, state, and comments as public information. We will not make your street address publicly available, but we may transmit it to campaign targets (e.g., your elected representatives) specifically noted on the action page.
5.3 Information Related to Donations. TCM does not rent, share, sell, or trade any information related to online or offline donations with any second or third party except CMP.
5.4 Agents, Consultants and Related Third Parties. TCM may use volunteers or hire other companies to perform certain functions (e.g., mailing information, maintaining databases, and processing payments). In doing so, we protect your information by sharing only what is necessary for the third party to complete its work.
5.4 Legal Requirements. We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect and defend the rights or property of TCM, act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of website visitors or the public, or protect against legal liability.
6.0 External Websites
6.1 Links to Other Websites. Our website may contain links to other websites not operated or controlled by TCM, called third-party sites. The policies described here do not apply to third-party sites. Links from our website to third-party sites do not imply that TCM endorses or has reviewed those sites. Please contact those sites directly for information on their privacy policies.
6.2 Social Media: Through our website, you may choose to access certain social media websites and services that are owned and controlled by third parties (e.g., Facebook and Twitter). When you do so, you may be sharing your information, which may include personal information, with those social media services. The information that you share will be governed by the privacy policies and terms of service of those social media services and not by the policies described here. Please contact those social media services directly for information on their privacy policies.
