Digital Outreach Coordinator

DESCRIPTION

The Digital Outreach Coordinator will assist the Organizing director to maximize the impact of the Climate Emergency campaign through email and phone outreach, and organizing call assistance and follow up.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with correspondence and follow up with supporters and new organizers

  • Place phone calls to supporters to encourage and increase numbers of visits to elected representatives and other calls to action

  • Serve as call tech for video organizing calls

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Some comfort with technology

  • Comfort with phone call outreach to supporters

Climate Emergency Administrator

DESCRIPTION

The Climate Emergency Administrator will assist in managing correspondence, distributing information and educational materials, and assisting new organizers and affiliated groups in developing a Climate Mobilization chapter or coalition.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Climate Emergency team with administrative duties

  • Hold 1 on 1 relationship building meetings with prospective organizers

  • Onboard prospective organizers, ensuring they have a strong understanding of The Climate Mobilization’s story, strategy, structure and platform

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Motivated, energetic self-starter with an engaging personality

  • Preferred but not required: Past human services or nonprofit experience, and/or organizing experience in a volunteer-run grassroots organization or political campaign

Organizing Materials Developer

DESCRIPTION

Time commitment: 3+ hours a week

Organizing Materials Development volunteers play a key role in The Climate Mobilization’s Climate Emergency campaign by creating training and campaign materials for local organizers and partner organizations to use.

Responsibilities:

  • Create drafts of activities, flyers, handouts, trainings and/or videos for local organizers to use

  • Revise and edit materials in accordance with feedback from staff, materials reviewers and local organizers who are piloting activities and materials

  • Provide input on overall program development as part of twice weekly team calls

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing skills

  • Ability to respond to and incorporate feedback

  • We prefer volunteers who have at least one of the following experiences:

    • Experience participating in community, labor, grassroots or climate organizations or campaigns

    • Formal or informal experience as an educator or youth worker working with children, young adults or adults

    • Experience facilitating, leading or designing trainings (on any subject matter)

Book-Launch Publicist

The Climate Mobilization is looking for a volunteer to aid one of our founders, Margaret Klein Salamon, in the release of a new book. This will require about 10 hours a week of work that can be done remotely.  

The ideal candidate is passionate about canceling the climate apocalypse, obsessed with how social change works, interested in a bird-eye view of the publishing process, a skilled writer and lightning-quick on email and other responses.

The responsibilities of this role will grow as the project expands but will likely include the following:

  • Help execute a detailed marketing and social media plan.  

  • Grow an email newsletter list, create posts and maintain social media accounts.

  • Research and reach out to media contacts and influencers for book promotion.

  • Write Copy, help to plan webinars, produce and edit video.

  • Project management and event planning.

Executive Assistant

Tech Support

DESCRIPTION

The Climate Mobilization runs on technology. We need dedicated, knowledgeable, tech savvy volunteers to help keep our systems running properly to get our work done.

Responsibilities

  • Train new staff and volunteers to use necessary technology.

  • Respond to requests for tech solutions.

  • Assist with website maintenance and updating.

  • Learn the systems we rely on so you can assist staff with problems that arise.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Skilled and knowledgeable with remote office software and database work.

  • Clear communicator—able to train staff patiently on new systems.

  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

  • Available to be “on call” for tech requests during some part of the week.

Research and Policy Associate

DESCRIPTION

The Research & Policy Team’s mission is to drive TCM’s contribution to the climate movement as a thought leader by developing ambitious solutions to the climate emergency, as well to provide research support for TCM’s organizing and policy campaigns. Most research projects are centered around climate policy analysis/development and political economy, although the team also handles ad hoc research requests as they arise.

We are looking for highly skilled researchers with a passionate to fighting the climate emergency through an all-hands-on-deck approach. While government or activist research experience is preferred, those will all research and policy backgrounds can contribute to the team. Researchers often work directly with organizers and activists, and the work of the Research and Policy team plays a significant role in shaping the content and structure of climate bills brought before city councils and state legislatures, as well as major TCM publications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and support TCM Director of Research and Publications and  Director of Policy and Strategy, additional TCM staff, local organizers, and other Research and Policy team volunteers through regular emails and calls

  • Complete assigned research and writing tasks within the Climate Mobilization and Climate Emergency verticals. Tasks include “one-off” assignments including policy briefs, blog posts, and data compilation, as well as long-term, collaborative research projects

  • Assist in the production of publication-level reports and other official TCM materials and resources 

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum time commitment of 5 hours/week

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental policy, environmental science, geography, political science, economics, or a related subject

  • Strong written communication and critical thinking skills

Desired

  • Master’s degree in environmental policy, environmental science, geography, political science, economics, or a related subject

  • Experience with data analysis, communications, journalism, campaign strategy development, graphic design, and/or publication-level research and writing

Organizer

Organizers support The Climate Mobilization in ongoing development of the Climate Emergency campaign strategy, organizing model, trainings and materials, and identifying and collaborating with partner organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Support with training design and materials development

  • Identify and conduct outreach to partner organizations

  • Identify new materials development needs

  • Provide input on overall program development and strategy as part of twice weekly team calls

  • Depending on skills and experience, volunteers in this role may provide coaching support to local organizers and partner organizations, and/or help facilitate monthly calls for local organizers

Qualifications:

  • Past volunteer or professional experience participating in a community, labor, grassroots or climate organization or campaign

Video Developer

DESCRIPTION

Time Commitment: 6 hours per week

The Video Development Volunteer will support the creation of videos that engage new individuals and organizations in the Climate Emergency campaign, provide compelling material for trainings, and make The Climate Emergency organizing model accessible to organizers who prefer to learn from videos.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Climate Emergency team to generate ideas for short (1-5 minute) video projects

  • Guide video production process from concept, to script / proposal, through production and project management

  • Create draft and final edits of videos using footage shot by you and/or others

Qualifications:

  • Personal, volunteer or professional video editing, creation or production experience (This includes creating videos on a cell phone for fun)

  • Ideally, volunteers will have the ability to edit video using their personal computer or tablet

Elders Outreach Volunteer

DESCRIPTION

Time Commitment: 5 hours per week

The Climate Mobilization seeks a volunteer who can spend 5 hours a week providing administrative and outreach support to an emerging partnership between The Climate Mobilization and Elders Climate Action.  

This volunteer’s duties will include:

  • Working directly with Elders Climate Action to engage the organization’s members in local Climate Emergency campaigns, whether by inviting them to join calls / webinars, sending them informational materials, or doing direct outreach (i.e. holding phone conversations about the possibility of starting a Climate Emergency campaign)

  • Connecting climate activists with additional support and training opportunities provided by The Climate Mobilization

Qualifications for this role are:

  • Strong phone and email communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and persuasive skills

  • Proficient in computer skills

  • Excellent organizational skills, including a track record of being able to use time effectively and prioritize among competing demands

  • Competency or past experiences working with elders is preferred

  • Computer proficiency
